Tonight I Dined: Tarka Indian Kitchen

Here we go, my review of a fast casual Indian cuisine option in Houston! The only other similar concept, Taja Indian, is (1) located in the suburbs, and (2) closed down only after a few months! Austin-based Tarka Indian Kitchen recently opened in the Heights. The restaurant is in a great space where the walls are glass and natural light fills the dining room. You order at the counter, take a number, and they deliver the food to your table.

The menu has tons of labelled vegan options including soup, salad, samosas, pakoras, roti, and entrees. I got the yellow daal, and while it's hard to tell from the picture, the portion was way bigger than I expected. And at the $7.50 price point, I don't think you can beat that.

With each dish, you indicate the spiciness level, and I went with the mildest. The daal was creamy and full of flavor, although a tad on the salty side. I love NaCl so I didn't mind, but maybe they added more salt to the mild to offset the lack of spice. Good quality, and the abundance of vegan options makes this a great choice!
