Tonight I Dined: The Beer Plant

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the opening of The Beer Plant, Austin's first vegan gastropub. The inside is on the smaller side, with flickering candles and dark colors (it is a great date environment). I sat at the long wooden bar, and ordered the small Ploughman's plate and the Hop's and Chips. The Ploughman's is a vegan charcuterie with seitan, garlic butter, nut cheese, tomato chutney, pickled veg and sourdough bread. This was absolutely amazing...there were 3 types of cheese and the spicy one was the best thing on the plate. This was such a treat to have this popular pub platter made vegan! The Hop's and chips were hearts of palm in a light beer batter (made wth local ATX brewery beer Pearl Snap) deep fried. This was one of the best breadings I've had...it also came with crispy fries and an awesome flavorful remoulade. I didn't order any drinks, but they have taps upon taps of craft beers! Overall, this was some great food...the only downside was that it's a little pricey, and so it would be more of a special occasion spot than an everyday favorite for me.

Apologies for the meh pictures, since I was seated at the bar and didn't pull out my camera.
