Tonight I Dined: Sweet Side Cafe

Next door to Paulie Gee's is a bakery and fro-yo shop called the Sweet Side Cafe. For Baltimore Restaurant week they rolled out some vegan macarons (and some other sweet and savory dishes pictured below). Apparently the cookies were so popular on this trial basis that they are keeping them on the regular menu! #winning.

I was particularly excited for this dessert because I never had a macaron before...vegan or otherwise. There were 3 flavors to choose from when I went, and I opted for the lavender with chocolate filling and red velvet. The cookies were so light and airy, with a nice crunch, just as they should be! The lavender flavor was indeed floral (and I loveeed it)...but this flower-forwardness is not for everyone. The red velvet was incredible, and the cookie and filling were both on the sweet side, so be prepared for the decadence. Macarons are really a vegan treat and I'm so glad to have tried them since I know I am never going to be able to successfully make my own with aquafaba (don't have the patience...so thank you Sweet Side Cafe!).
