Tonight I Dined: Oui Banh Mi
Oui Banh Mi is a fast casual Vietnamese cuisine restaurant and drive-thru in Montrose, Houston. It's only a few blocks from the HEB so to optimize your experience, I suggest ordering to-go and picking yourself up a beer from HEB (yes, they sell singles!) and dining on their patio.
Oui has an advertised vegan curry special and several other options can be veganized if you ask the staff (or check their Facebook). I ordered the tofu banh mi--hold the mayo--of course. The banh mi was filled with seasoned, shredded tofu, pickled carrots, thinly sliced cucumber, jalapeno, and fresh cilantro. The filling was simply scrumptious, although a little skimpy for the size of the roll. The roll was soft and crisp and held together nicely. I added a lot of sriracha to my sandwich, which is necessary because I omitted the mayo. Banh mi needs something so it's not so dry. Overall the sandwich was very tasty and I would go back for a quick bite to eat (or snack if I'm feeling myself).
