Tonight I Dined: Jinya Ramen Bar

Do you see this creamy vegan ramen? Do you see it? Jinya Ramen Bar in Midtown Houston makes this unbelievable plant-based creation and they deserve major props. Luckily Jinya has several locations throughout the country, so you don't have to wait for a trip to Houston to get your fix. Run Forrest Run...to your nearest ramen bar.

Let's be clear this ramen is labelled vegan, so you don't have to worry about substitutions or omissions. Let's let out a collective sigh of relief for both you and the waiter. The dish starts off with a base of creamy vegetable broth and is loaded with thick noodles, spinach, green onion, tofu, garlic-chili oil, and sesame seeds. Every ingredient has a purpose, and every bite is unique. I honestly may never go back to a non-creamy ramen ever again, because I just adore the depth of flavor and the mouthfeel of this broth. It is salty and slightly spicy, and the al dente texture of the noodles are a perfect counterpoint to the soft tofu cubes and wilted vegetables.

Now, I have some tips if you do go to the Midtown Houston location...this place is popular (i.e. you will be standing in line for dinner). They don't take reservations, so make sure you go before you are starving, because you will be waiting. Also, there are a few booths lining the walls, but it is a small space, and you will most likely be dining at a shared table. The stools are pretty close to each other, so if you aren't a fan of getting friendly with your neighbor, this may not be the place for you! Otherwise, for a unique dining experience and awesome food, I highly recommend it!
