SOS

Mmmm savory sausage gravy on toast...this is a mock up of creamed chipped beef (also known as SOS) that I used to love as a kid. This is a truly stick-to-your-ribs down home recipe that is so easy, and you probably have all of the ingredients in your pantry!

SOS (makes 3 pieces)
3 slices of whole wheat bread, toasted
1 Tbsp Earth balance spread
3 Tbsp non-dairy milk
1/2 C vegan meat  (I used 3 of Kroger's Simple Truth Organic Vegan breakfast sausage frozen patties, or use veggie ham slices)
1 Tbsp flour
2 tsp Bragg Liquid Amino*
generous black pepper

*Liquid aminos taste similar to soy sauce, but with greater depth and impart a strong umami taste. This is great here instead of salt and imparts a nice brown color to the gravy

1. Defrost the sausage patties, but do not cook.
2. In a medium skillet add butter on lo-medium heat and melt.
3. Add crumbled sausage and brown for 3-4 minutes, stirring.
4. Sprinkle flour overtop and stir well so that the flour coats the sausage.
5. Slowly add milk and stir, as it thickens add more (adjust the amount for your desired gravy consistency). Add black pepper and Braggs
6. Serve gravy atop toast.
